8th Grade writing assignment

Your assignment for tomorrow is to write a well constructed paragraph about what you personally can do to be a better citizen. Be specific and elaborate. This will not be a typical 5-8 sentence paragraph. This needs to have 3-5 ideas with supporting sentences for each point. I am looking for half a page minimum. 20 points due tomorrow.

  1. I can be a better citizen. To become a better citizen, my ideas were that, I could help out a lot more with community service. An example of this would be that I could help and pick up trash around the community.Other ideas would be that I can participate in programs, such as Keep America Beautiful Inc., and I can join into church activities. Like I can help out with I-Can, the Crop Walk, and other activites in church pertaning to helping out the community. Being a citizen comes with responsibilities and in order for me to become a better citizen need to help out the community more often. And so I think that I will do these things more often. Other ideas may be that I could start a community service club or work in a soup kitchen to help feed the community some food. It would help out with hobos and help them and other homeless people get off the streets. You know try to convice them to go to missions or something. (We can at least try to help.) This would also show that I am providing service toward my community. And all of this proves to myself and others that I do have it in me to become a better citizen and not just sit around on my butt all day. I rest my case.(:

  2. The ideal citizen abides by the laws, is environmentally aware, and is conciencious of their community.Thought there are many people that strive to be the ideal citizen, no one is perfect. For me to be a better citizen, I would have to change little minor things. I'm not saying that I'm perfect, but i don't really need to change any major things in order to become a better citizen
The first thing that I would have to do would be to become more aware of how the city looks. Many people litter and it causes the community to look bad. As stated above an ideal citizen must be conciencious of the community, and what it looks like is most deffinitly something to thin about. I would litter less and pick up the litter that I see on the ground.
Another thing that I wouild do would be that i would think about maybe recycling some of the trash that I have, instead of just throwing it away and letting it slowly deciminate in a landfill that is slowly going to get bigger and bigger and nastier and nastier. One that is unsanitary, and two, its unsightly and will hurt the environment. The environment is very important to human life. WE depend on it, and if it goes away, then we go away. Literally.
The last thing that I would do that I will metion would be that I wouldtry my hardest to stay out of trouble so that i would be a good citizen all around. Staying out of trouble would mean being nice and playinjg attention and not talking in school, along with being respectful and to listen at home. That technically counts as abiding by the law since I mean at my age it's pretty hard to break some laws and the ones that aren't I'd rather not, so I'll just do the good citizenship aprouch to it instead.
All in all i don't think that I'd be a perfect citizen even after I've done these things, but i would try my hardest to be a good citizen and to abide by the law, be environmentally aware, and to be conciencious of my community.

  3. What can I do to become a better citzen.
Well I can help the poor, and I can try to encourage young adults to get off drugs and alcohol, and to get more involved in schooling ,sports, and a postive activity.
I can teach people how to recylce things for extra money. I can also try to teach people to not blame others for there own actions ,but to stand up as a leader and not a follower.

  4. To become a better citizen I can recycle, it reduces the amount of solid waste going into landfills and helps preserve natural resources. Secondly I can voulenteer with the elderley and disabled it will make the person that you are helping and yourself feel better.Give time and donate unwanted things to shelters, that would help the people that are living and working at the shelters. And I could also do better in school and set an example for my brother and sister. These are all of the things that I could do to become a better citizen.

  5. Being a citizen of the United States dosen't come for free, we have some responsibly. We have to do all we can to be a better citizen, for instance we can try to encourage the younger kids to try harder in school. We can also try to help thoes kids in need of some help in school, by tutoring them. We can also be better citizens by recycleing. We can raise the awareness of what it causes by not recycleing. The last thing we can do to be better citizens is stay informed on the presidental canidates. In tern making it easier to vote when the time comes. -Marissa Collie
