8th grade......Friday

Rough class today in Core 3.....a lot of off topic chatter. We will try again on Monday. Please make sure that you have 4-2 and now 4-3 which is posted, copied into your notebook. Also do not forget about your well thought out paragraph about which colonies settlement you would live in and why. 5-8 sentences minimum please. 4-3 is on Southern Colonies. Georgia, Virginia, Carolina, and Maryland. These colonies were established for very different reasons than New England and the Middle Colonies.

Also do not forget about our poll question....who ran the best settlement? We will talk about the results on Monday.

Be thinking about the motivations of each of the regions of colonies. That is the next major class discussion we will have. This will probably occur on Tuesday.

Have a good and safe weekend, get your P.119 #3-7 done so it can be turned in on Monday.

Mr. Clark

  1. I would want to live in New Netherlands. The Dutch welcomed people of many different nations and religions. They built trading posts along the Hudson River. But the most important one was Fort Orange, today known as Albany. They enlarged New Netherlands in 1655 by taking over the country of New Sweden.

  2. I would like to live in Maryland. It was originally established for the religious freedom of the Roman Cathlics. They learned from the settlement of Jamestown that it might not b a good idea to settle in a swampy area. Their first town, St. Mary's in a dryer location. Then latter it passed an Act of Toleration. They did this for fear that the protestants would start to persicute them, again. This law provided religoius fredom for all Christians. This law did not extend to the Jews. While the colony was still in its early stages and expanding, the colonist where frorced onto Indian land. The govenor refused to allow them to take their land from them because he profeted from trade with them. This is why I would like to live in Maryland.

  3. I would like to live in Rhode Island. Roger Williams started Rhode Island with religious freedoms. Rhode Island allows you the freedom to practice any religion. The seperation of Church and State was was a cornerstone of Roger Williams ideas. He believed that government should maintain peace and not support a particular church based on its beliefs.

  5. I would like to live in Georgia.James Oglethorpe who was a respected English soildier and energetic reformer, founded Georgia. It was a place where debtors or people who owed lots of money could make a clean start. Also Oglethorpe offerd to pay people to come live in georgia. Oglethorpe also set strict rules such as farms could be no bigger than 500 acres and slavery was forbidend. These are the reasons why i would like to live in Georgia.

  6. Yo MC! I would live in the back country reigon most likely because it would be more fair. Every one would have to grow thier own crops, the women cooked and made clothing. Unstead of making slaves do house keeping. And unstead of makeing slaves do cooking, disher , be servents, and grow crops the family could do the work and help themselves. Thats the region i would live in because G-Man Duz It!

If you live in the tidewater are,I will feel like you are at home in your English manor. The resemblance is outstanding!!! 9. If I were to settle in any colony I would settle in Pennsylvania. I would settle there because it was very civilized and the people treated the Indians decently. They paid for the land that they settled on and allowed many different religions to practice. It seemed to be one of the more peacful colonies.

  10. I would want to live in Maryland because people there can practice religion freely. The person who established it no longer had a good reputation in Protestant England because he turned into Roman Catholic. It would also be good to live there because they took what they learned from Jamestown what to do and what not to do.

  11. If I could live in one of the colonies I would live in Plymouth. I think this because I could practice my religion freely. Also because it a nice small settlement and every one is nice to each other(so it seemed). These are my reasons.

  12. If i were to settle to any colony it would be the Americas where Squanto lived. The reason why is because he and other indians would help the pilgrims or anyone who was new there grow plants and catch eels. everyone there were respectful. they treated newcomers well. These are my reasons why.
